Instant Coffee Currency Project: Currency Poster Launch currency designs by James Carl and Kelly Richardson Art Metropole, 788 King St W, Toronto October 28 2000, 1 - 3 pm Curated by Instant Coffee In light of the devalued state of Canadian currency, Instant Coffee sees the need for a renaming of the way we as Canadians consume and earn. We see the first logical step to change beginning with a reconstruction of the face of our current currency. The dollar as a sign is out-moded, over-used, over-valued and over-determined, rendering it inadequate to represent the particular way in which Canadians exchange their capitals. We need a new symbol and name that acknowledges a complex system of exchange -- one that moves beyond monetary values to include and communicate an exchange of cultural capitals. As brand conscious consumers, Instant Coffee demands a new brand of Canadian currency. In order to set this in motion we will solicit the government to replace the current dollar with two artist designs: the "Canada Cruller" by James Carl and "Canadian Sap" by Kelly Richardson. We want them to know that design effects the way we live are daily lives. Please support our efforts and enjoy the posters. Also join us at Art Metropole on Saturday, October 28th, 2000 for the launch of our campaign. |
